Confused here... very confused.
This article cites a 'war of independence' and the use of the rank 'legate' which honestly is in my opinion all sorts of wrong. Firstly Arathor is -not- Rome, and the rank of Legate, which was specifically Roman, does not exist within Warcraft lore at all. Now I can understand having a theme, but we all know what the in-game military ranks are. Those should be used in place of ones which do not have a place within the game world.
The War of Independence is another thing, this also did not happen. The Kingdom of Arathor (which was never an Empire) fractured after the troll wars, entire groups went their own way, founded their own kingdoms. There was never any conflict over this, and why would there be? Especially when you consider that it was the heirs of King Thoradin that decided to travel south and found Stormwind.
IMO the histories of kingdoms and royal houses should not be altered or expanded on. If people want to create their own noble houses, their own mini-kingdoms and say they are independent then by all means go for it, but to say that Stormwind claimed independence from an empire which never existed, is really -really- wrong.
