The Stormshend-Cromwell debates were a series of arguments within the Howling Oak, hosted publicly, that concerned the future of Gilnean conservativism. Ferenold Stormshend advocated a radical conservativism which stressed Gilnean cultural exceptionalism, the value of ancient custom and tradition, as well as the primacy of emotion and the existence of a 'race-soul', while Cromwell advocated for a return to a strictly rational society, the exclusion of the Light from public affairs, and expansion-based nationalism instead of race-based nationalism.
