Dame Meriliah Forger the Swift is a half-elf serving as a Corporal with the First Regiment. She has been with the Regiment since the age of fifteen. Since joining she has been with the Order of Saint Isaac, the Brotherhood of the Horse, and most recently with the Stormwind Inquisition.

Meriliah considers herself a paladin in the loosest of terms given her ability to use the Light. However, given her combat style, she likes to jokingly refer to herself as a 'Sneakadin.'

Appearance[]

Meriliah's trademark is her blue ribbon. Regardless of her armor, rank, or the situation, she always has a ribbon in her hair. Meri tends to keep her hair cropped short. It generally has a rough look to it and recently lost its golden luster in favor of silver.

Meri has green eyes and a wry smirk that screams trouble. She's become much better at hiding that grin while she's in formation. Despite being a half-elf, Meri tends to favor her elven side over her human side. Her features are generally dainty, and she has longer ears rather than the shorter ones that appear to be more common among half-elves. She stands at an incredibly average 5'5" and has a sturdy, if thin, build.

Personality[]

Meriliah generally portrays herself to be a light-hearted, good-intentioned prankster. She’s a bit overeager at times and can be a little reckless when it comes to her personal well being. She has a solid moral compass and isn’t afraid to question her own biases by asking others to get a better picture of a situation. Sometimes she can be a little blunt, and even after being in the Regiment for as many years as she has, she is still perhaps a little too familiar with folks who are higher ranked than she is. Meri likes to tinker during her spare time and pulls quiet pranks on her fellow soldiers to help lighten the mood of the Regiment.

History[]

Meriliah Forger came to Stormwind at the age of fifteen after Theramore was destroyed. She was recruited by the Dame Theodora Ke'tar and soon after went to serve as the squire to Dame Mairaed. Shortly after joining, Meri joined the Order of Saint Isaac at the suggestion of dame Mairaed. She became an aspirant under Andraste Tygen and was knighted at sixteen. Andraste Tygen retired after her knighting, and Meri was given her position as Ordinary for the Order. The responsibility and pressure to be practically perfect led to Meri having a breakdown from the stress. She did her best to bring new paladins into the Order, training them to the best of her ability. In the end, it proved to be too much strain on her. She resigned after ultimately losing the ability to wield the Light (although she did regain it eventually). Meri forsook her title of the Brave along with all authority she had with the Order.

About half a year after leaving the Order of Saint Isaac, she requested to join the Brotherhood of the Horse. During her time in Draenor, Meriliah was knighted a second time. On December 22, 34 LC, at an overlook in Gorgrond, Meriliah swore her oath and was knighted by Duke Maxen Montclair. She was given a new set of armor, a blade, dubbed 'Shimmerfang' by the Duke.

A few months after returning from Draenor, Meriliah left the First Regiment. She resigned with little warning. She left behind her armor and her horse before fleeing in the night. She didn't tell anyone other than the Duke she was leaving. The only thing she kept was her sword, Shimmerfang, since it had been a gift.

For a while, Meriliah disappeared. Where she went, and what she did, no one is really sure. There was a rumor of an errant knight with her title roaming the lands, but only a few people spoke about it.

When Meri she finally returned to Stormwind years later, she'd changed. Gone was her long, bushy, wheat-colored hair. It was almost completely silver now and cropped short and wild. She was still Meriliah, though--still the girl with the quirky grin, cheeky tongue, and blue hair ribbon. There was an ease about her since returning and a brightness to her eyes that had been absent since her failure as Ordinary.

About a month after her return, she snuck into the Garrison and conversed with the Duke. She once again swore her loyalty to him and join the Regiment, this time with renewed purpose as she set her eyes on becoming an Inquisitor.

Relationships[]

Duke Maxen Montclair[]

Meriliah is incredibly loyal to the Duke. Through all of her years in the Regiment since the Fall of Theramore, he's been the one person who has remained. As such, she is completely dedicated to him and would follow his orders without question, regardless of whether they contradicted the orders of the Inquisition or even the Alliance.

Anorette Foy[]

Meriliah considers herself to be a friend of Anorette's. It's been a long time since she's bonded with someone, and after they went through hell together during what Meri is now lovingly calling "the Church Initiation," she's started to go out of her way to show affection to her. Meri worries about Anorette and her physical wellbeing. She's hoping to become a good influence for her so she can survive her trials as a budding paladin.

Kazren Stilltide[]

She was surprised by this friendship. When Meriliah met Kazren, she wanted to hate him. He was a half-orc, after all, and given what happened to her home, she has nothing but contempt for the Horde. However, after watching the reactions from some of the others, Meriliah decided to talk to him and learn what she could about his motivations. After a candid conversation along with a mental reminder that the Duke trusted him, Meriliah forged a friendship with him. It's still a new thing, mostly filled with quips and cheeky conversations, but she's finding that she enjoys his company.

Trivia[]

  • Her title, "Child of the Light", was given to her by another player during the Battle for Dalaran after she helped to heal a number of mages, prior to having competent training in the Light. It was after this that her training began in earnest, with Mairaed Montclair teaching her.

  • Her last name was a pun on her parent's professions--blacksmithing and scribing. A blacksmith forges armor. A scribe forges documents.

  • Her personality was inspired by a mix of Sabriel from the Abhorson Trilogy and Alanna the Lioness from Song of the Lioness.
