Founder |
The House of Marwyn-Ashvale was founded as a Stormwind cadet branch of the House of Marwyn when Melysa Marwyn-Ashvale inherited the Earldom of Aberdeen on the death of her uncle, Charles McGowen in June of 624 K.C. The present Lady Aberdeen is descended from both the House of Marwyn, and the family of the first Earl, the House of McGowen. The house is sometimes referred to as the "Marwyns of Aberdeen". For her motto, Lady Aberdeen chose the words of her late mentor, Sir Duncan Maclear, "Strength In Virtue"
What's In a Name?[]
For some time after her husband's death, Melysa debated dropping his name altogether, and often referred to herself by her maiden name of Marwyn. The decision to keep the family name Marwyn-Ashvale came in late September of 623 K.C. when Melysa sought alliances with some of Lordaeron's remaining aristocracy. The Ashvale name was praised even by the Argent Crusade, due in large part to Lord Ethan's service during the Siege of Icecrown, and the annual donation of twenty thousand dollars, made in perpetuity by her deceased son's estate.
An Uncertain Future[]
Now a childless widow, Lady Aberdeen has named her niece, Merridyth Marwyn as her heir presumptive, though Merridyth's standing with the Kingdom of Stormwind may prevent her from inheriting. For this reason, Lady Aberdeen hopes to marry again, and conceive another child so as to preserve the title earned by her late Uncle, the first Earl.
