The Cultsworn Scourge, commonly referred to as the New Scourge or the Scourge Reborn, is a segment of the larger Scourge who are in open rebellion against the current Lich King, Bolvar, and who instead have sworn themselves to the Cult of the Damned. They are led by the Prophet, Plagueheart, whom has claimed leadership of the Cult of the Damned. While their stated aim is to bring about the second coming of the Scourge, they are a relatively unknown group in Azeroth thanks in part to the chaos caused by the recent invasion of the Burning Legion.

The Dark Reformation, along with its accompanying scripture, plays a significant role in the Cultsworn Scourge's doctrinal leanings. Additionally, this segment of the Scourge is primarily associated with Plagueheart's sect of the Cult of the Damned (though the two might often be used synonymously) and with the necropolis, Heraxnar, of which Plagueheart is the lord.

Apart from the association with Heraxnar, little is known of where the Cultsworn operate. Rumors have spread that it possesses a location within the northern mountains, high above Stratholme; others put the Cultsworn's base of operations in the western Plaguelands, as there have been sightings of necromancers claiming to be Cultsworn there just west of the river Thondroril.

Rumored Activity[]

The Cultsworn had purportedly traveled to Kalimdor. While there, they allegedly put down a civil war occurring between various Razorfen factions. Eye-witness accounts, however, state that the necropolis supposedly ruled by the Cultsworn Scourge vanished recently.

In addition to their visit to Kalimdor, the Cultsworn have also been linked to a recent plaguing of a small town in the Twilight Highlands and the apparent theft of a runeforge that had until recently been on loan to the Explorer's League by the Ebon Blade.

The Crest of the Cultsworn[]

The Cultsworn's sigil is the cult's icon with a broken Frostmourne laid atop; the broken blade symbolizes their fallen god, yes, but it also represents their continued devotion to the original Lich King. It remains ambiguous whether that devotion is direct toward Ner'zhul, Arthas, or some combination of the two. Some depictions of the crest also have a stake protruding out from the skull on Frostmourne's hilt with a few scholars speculating that this might seek to symbolize the true Lich King's enduring sacrifice to his religious followers.

Affiliations with Scholomance[]

The Cultsworn Scourge appears to be affiliated with the faculty of Scholomance. Numerous intercepted communiques by Argent scouts establish a relationship between the two entities—with the faculty supplying fresh recruits and the Cultsworn supplying supplies and freshly rendered cadavers for the students of Scholomance.
