The Continent of Azeroth
The continent most known for which the Kingdom of Stormwind holds its domain is known as Azeroth, which is often confused with the name of the planet Azeroth. The ancient Arathorian Empire coined the name for the land, and it was taken up by Stormwind in its progenitor, the Kingdom of Azeroth.
While majorly controlled by the Kingdom of Stormwind, Azeroth becomes more contested the farther one travels from Stormwind City. Forest trolls from the ancient Gurubashi Empire control most of Stranglethorn Vale, the Blackrock Clan of orcs controls much of the Burning Steppes, and the Grand Alliance and New Horde are in open war over the Swamp of Sorrows and the Blasted Lands.
