The Lord Magistrate is the chief judicial arbiter of law in the King's stead within the realm and is appointed directly by the king. Traditionally candidates for Lord Magistrate are presented to the king by the Stormwind House of Nobles and, if acceptable to the monarch, are installed in their office for the duration of their life or until retirement.

Upon taking his seat in the Stormwind House of Magistrates, the Lord Magistrate is tasked with presiding over courts which deal primarily with serious offences, arranging trials, appointing courts of appeal, and appointing as well as overseeing magistrates.

In addition to his duty of appointing the Magistrates of the realm, the Lord Magistrate is responsible for investigating individual justices if he has reason to believe they have engaged in acts of misconduct, dismissing them if necessary.

The Honorable Baldrec Ashcroft[]

Presiding: June 20, 623 K.C. - September 11th, 623 K.C.

Duke Baldrec Ashcroft, an understudy of Duke Gottfried Helheim, took his mentor's place when Duke Erich resigned from his office. As Lord Magistrate, Duke Baldrec was faced with the controversy surrounding Bishop Luther Alburton of the Silver Hand Chapter. With the Cathedral by-laws under attack by protesters, Duke Baldrec's tenure was marked as overwhelmingly ineffective. He resigned from his position during the Siege of Orgrimmar.

The Honorable Meldras V. Calister[]

Presiding: September 12th, 623 K.C. - December 31st, 623 K.C.

Lord Meldras V. Calister was appointed the first Vicar Magistrate by Duke Gottfried Helheim at the same time Duke Baldrec Ashcroft's tenure as Lord Magistrate began, due to his frequent absences on campaign. A student and colleague of both former Lord Magistrates respectively, Lord Meldras worked closely with His Holiness, Archbishop Columban V to reform Church Law. The Council of Magistrates met on a regular basis despite intense gridlock in both their own ranks and the Stormwind Peerage; this contributed to his eventual resignation.

The Honorable Haemund Fray[]

Presiding: January 1st, 624 K.C. - Present

A survivor of the Orcish Wars, Haemund served the provincial court of Duskwood for decades before being offered the position of Lord Magistrate. Upon taking his seat as Lord Magistrate, Haemund quickly pushed for reform of the Stormwind Military Law.
